Korea is an East Asian territory that is divided into two distinct sovereign states, South Korea and North Korea. The division was the result of the 1945 Allied victory in World War II. Korea was divided into two zones of occupation which later evolved into sovereign countries. Northern zone was occupied by the Soviet Union, southern was occupied by United States. At the end of the 1960s, Korean photographer Kim Ki-chan bought a secondhand camera and started to taka photos of alleyways and street corners in Seoul. Since then, the theme became Kim’s subject for over 30 years. Take a look at the photographs of South Korea from 1960s to 1990s.
